Earth Citizenship Field Programs

To support climate clever programs and schools that are focusing on energy reduction strategies, our Centre has developed programs that focus on the biosphere and concepts of ecological sustainability.

Students must understand this concept as a foundation for all other sustainability concepts. In this way sustainability at school can be linked to the natural world and the planet that supports us.

Climate Clever Energy Savers

Climate Clever Energy Savers is a 5 year program facilitating professional learning and student-directed project work to contribute to energy savings and greenhouse gas emission reduction in NSW government schools.  

The Climate Clever Energy Savers program is designed to:

  • enable student-directed energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction projects, linked to the curriculum and to classroom learning
  • enhance student engagement and subject-based learning through authentic project work based on sustainability and climate change issues
  • allow students to take responsibility for generating ideas, for raising awareness and for making a difference in their schools and communities regarding energy efficiency

provide primary and secondary teachers with learning opportunities to further develop professional knowledge and skills, and with resources to facilitate student-directed, project-based learning related to energy efficiency. 

Curriculum K-12 Directorate will facilitate professional learning and provide support materials for regional staff coordinating the program and for participating teachers and provide coordination support throughout each calendar year of the program. 

Regional award committee members will determine which teachers/schools participate in the professional learning in each calendar year of the program and which schools receive project implementation awards. Teachers and schools will apply using online application processes.
